Does anyone want my 17 year old boy?

He cooks, he is semi-respectful, irresponsible, helpful when he is in trouble (which is a LOT lately), doesn't listen, doesn't learn from his mistakes, thinks he can do whatever he wants when he wants, got in an accident about a month ago that was his fault and doesn't know how to use his phone to talk to us.

I just don't understand why he can't understand the fine art of communication.

He keeps "forgetting" to communicate with us about going places that were not previously discussed/given permission to do.

On a Friday a while back, he drove himself and his sister to the homecoming game. He was to come home right after. My husband and I were out. My daughter had tried to call 3 times after the dance, because she was locked out of the house, being chewed up by mosquitoes. Apparently, The Boy had made sure she had a ride home, and then took his now ex-girlfriend home. Did he call? NO! He figured because she had a ride home, he was free to do whatever he pleased. We restricted his driving to going to and from work and school.

2 days later we had a tornado WARNING in our area. One had touched down right down the street from where I lived. I got home from work, "The Boy" wasn't home. I figured he went to work. My husband came home and asked where he was. Tiffany (my daughter) informed us that he had gone to the bank to get a money order. Did he call? NO! Had he had the common decency to call, we would have told him NO stay put! Because there are FREAKIN TORNADOES TOUCHING DOWN. We could not reach him on his cell phone, it went right to voicemail. We were flipping out. This is a day after he was in the aforementioned accident.

So he comes home and we ripped him a new one. His response? "My phone was dead." He could have used his sisters phone. angry

I was DONE. I wanted to take his phone. But my husband says, "He needs it" I said, "WHY? He doesn't use it to call us when he should."

Karma is a bitch he lost his phone at school the next day.

Here it is a month later. He was failing English at progress report time. We told him, any failing grade at report card time.. life as he knows it is over! His truck will be repo'd (by us), except to go to work and school and places we are too lazy to drive ourselves. No phone, no laptop, but most importantly of all NO SOCIAL LIFE! I guess he didn't think we were serious.. this past report card, he got an F in English. Why? "Because I didn't do 'Word of the Day', it's stupid!" BUT IT'S AN EASY FUCKING 'A'!

Apparently we don't ground him as much as we should, because he doesn't grasp the concept. I will leave that to tomorrow's post though..so tune in tomorrow for part 2 of "Please take The Boy before I lose my mind"

I was NEVER like this (Just don't ask my mom, she'll lie to you)

I ask again... does anyone want my 17 year old boy? Fast forward (if you want) to minute 2:17 for "The Boy"

I think doctors should work on temporary lobotomies for teenagers.

Send the boy up this way.

Some good hard work chopping wood wearing nothing but a t-shirt in -20 will set him straight.

As a former senior AP English teacher, trust me, 'Word of the Day' IS stupid.

I would have lost ALL of my privileges after the first time!

Do you have a dog house?

I can hardly wait for my kids to reach this age, where they think they know all and are all grown up, and yet are as stupid as they get.

My daughter's almost there, but still young enough that I can still put her in her place, and she can't drive yet, so I have ultimate power...

Um.....I will keep my cat but thanks for the offer.

Hang in there. Put up a countdown for that 18th birthday with a picture of a big boot in close proximity to his hindquarters. ;-)

I've got a soon to be 16 year old with the same problems...mom. Tonight he wants to go to a friends for the night. I knew this. He knew this. I promise you he will not be allowed to go however because he has not nor will he clean up his room. I told him last night that I was not going to ask again for him to do his chores. I made no threats. When he asks for a ride to the friends house I will say no. He will then ask me if he cleans his room can he go. I will say no because he didn't do it when I asked. I know all this because we played this very game last weekend and the weekend before.

It's a easy A with me. Clean your effing room and you can have just about anything you want. And charge your phone too!

I'd offer a trade but hardly think you want to go back two years. You can see the light at the end of the tunnel!

The lobotomy sounds like the perfect solution.

Do you think I could freeze mine in time so she never gets to that stage? I need to work on that ... I'm not sure I'm cut out to parent a teenager.

grounding never hurt anyone. I dont have kids but I remember being 17 rebellious and very much like THE boy, I would like to think it is just a phase but for sure, discipline and respect is a must. Coming from Asian heritage I would get my ass whopped if I disobeyed.

Stories like this are exactly why the Wife and I have decided not to have children and have a cat much easier. He's always home. :)
