What's my name again?

"The Boy" has a terrible memory. At almost 18, he has the memory of a goldfish. He is horrible with names and faces, unless of course he sees them more than once a week. Celebrities??? Fagitaboot it. You have to tell him what movie the person was in and character they played.

He asked me a few years ago for tips on improving his memory. I told him to write things down, make word association games things like that. He refused to heed my advice, and therefor "forget" homework assignments, project dates..etc.

He always remembers his work schedule and he has held his job for 2 years. They all love him there.

I am very proud of him. He is a great kid and I wouldn't change anything about him.

Back to the point of this post.

Wednesday night he asked me again what to do about his memory, because he thinks its gone form goldfish to slug. well ok he didn't say it THAT way, he said its getting worse. So I told him again about writing things down..etc. Then I told him about some vitamins to boost his lack of recall. So I told him Ginkgo Biloba, B6 b12, folic acid etc.

The next night, after getting off work, he calls me and asks if I remember when he asked me about the vitamins last night. I said "Yes I am not you I do"
He said, "Good, can you tell me again, because I forgot" I couldn't help but laugh.

He was at the grocery store looking at the vitamins and I started rattling them off again. By the time we were done talking, he had picked up 6 different vitamins and was on his way to pay. I told him to put all but one back, because he can overdose. He ended up with the folic acid and a multivitamin. I told him to try that until they were gone, if they didn't help, he could try another one.

He put them in his room with his keys wallet etc so he wouldn't forget where he put them and remember to take them

I'd love to hear from all of you if you have any other tips or tricks he might be able to try.

I found this for you ... Hagwood, who gives seminars on how to improve memory skills, advises people to use their non-dominant hand in daily chores, do crosswords and puzzles, play chess, take a different route on your daily commute, learn to tango, play an instrument and speak another language. No matter how challenging your job is, it isn't demanding enough. Brains thrive on constant challenge, so presenting them with the same activities that they already excel at doesn't keep the gray matter in top shape ... Maybe some of the points might be helpful? Good luck.

Bah, I think he is overreacting a bit.

But if he wants to take all those vitamins, maybe it'll help him better in school.

And he might graduate! :D

Tell him not to worry. The Zombie Apocalypse is on the horizon! And everyone knows Zombies eat the most "memorable"brainz first!

Ha!

Just kidding. (I think)

I think doing crossword puzzles and personally I like sudoku helps my memory, but then again...

where am I?

WHO are you? heh heh

I would love to give you some tips, but I don't really recall what the hell we were talking about.

I have the worst short term memory around. I can remember things from when I was five years old, but don't ask me what I had for breakfast yesterday. For me, I've been practicing puzzles and things like that. This way I can hopefully improve my memory even at my age. Good luck to your son. Let me know if those vitamins work.

I have this crazy memory! I can remember liner notes from albums, and trivial facts that I hold onto for years, but on the other hand, I can forget my wallet every day. I leave my self notes or put everything in a pile that I need to take with me. I think that memory has a lot to do with things that we are interested in!
