I am NOT addicted.. ok maybe a tad

I either have an additive personality, or AOADHD (adult onset ADHD). Maybe a little of both. I can get SOOOOOOOO into something and be very gung-ho for maybe a month or so until I get bored with it and move on to something else. With the exception of Greedbay Ebay.. I sold there for almost 2 years until February 2008 when they made their ridiculous changes to the feedback system, fees, and MANY other things. After that, I moved on to selling on the now defunct loudfrog.com, it was a free alternative to Greedbay. In between, I was hooked on many websites.. a poker website (no real money involved, just for fun.. thank God, or I would be broke and homeless) Then there was Freecycle, a Yahoo group you can use to get rid of things you no longer need and request things that you do need from your member neighbors and surrounding cities. I still use it, just not as obsessively as before. Then there was Mylot.. It is a site that pays you to post your opinions, comment on others. It pays a penny a post or whatever, they don't reveal the pay structure, but it is a fun place to be. I have "met" a lot of great people. I have made about $40 from it since Feb. 2008 when I joined (coinkydink that this obsession started when obsession when Greedbay ended? What makes you think so :P ) But I stopped that in October.

Occasionally, but not often enough, I will become "hooked" on cleaning my house. But like all else, I get bored with that too. I was walking every night for exercise for about a year, but then everyone I walked with lost interest and all of the weight I lost came back.

Guitar Hero, Rock Band, countless other video games.. hopelessly addicted to the point of joint and neck pain.

Drugs?? NOPE, I don't dare try, I already know i would be in rehab for years if I ever got started.

Can I go to Vegas? Only if you give me $100, then drug me and drag me out of there when it's gone and hope I get home before I wake up jonesing for just "one more pull."

Which brings me, my friends, to my new addiction... blogging. I started blogging in October of last year after I got bored with Mylot (see the pattern?) I wasn't sure I ever understood what it was, or why people would want to do it. But now I get it.. blogging is yet another "drug." Is there rehab?

What does my family think about all this? It drives them nuts, I am sure, but they are used to it. My hubby is insanely patient, how he hasn't killed me I am not quite sure. My kids? At least one has recently discovered she MIGHT also have an addictive personality.. but that's a whole other story.

I remind me of this Email Gem (I did NOT write it):

A Day in the Life:
I decide to water my garden. As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and see that it needs washing.

As I start toward the garage, I notice mail on the porch table that I brought up from the mailbox earlier. I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.

I lay my car keys on the table, put the useless mail in the trash basket under the table and notice that the basket is full. So I put the bills back on the table and first take the trash out to the recycling bin.

But then I think since I'm going to be near the mailbox when I take out the trash anyway I may as well pay the bills first. I take my checkbook off the table and see that there is only one check left.

My extra checks are in my desk in the study so I go to my desk where I find a can of Coke I'd been drinking. I'm going to look for my checks but before I do that I need to push the Coke aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over.

The Coke is getting warm and I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold. As I head toward the kitchen, a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye---the flowers need water.

I put the Coke on the counter and discover the reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning. It occurs to me that I'd best put them back on my desk before I lose them again, but first I have to water the flowers.

I set the glasses back on the counter, fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote that someone has left on the kitchen table.

I'm afraid that tonight when we go to watch TV, I'll be looking for the remote but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I pick it up intending to put it back in the den where it belongs. But first I have to water the flowers.

I pour some water in the flowers but my hand slips and most of it spills on the floor, causing me to set the remote back on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill.

It takes a while, after which I head down the hall trying to remember why I went to the kitchen in the first place.

At the end of the day:

The car isn't washed, the bills aren't paid, there is a warm can of Coke sitting on the counter, the flowers don't have enough water and there is still only one check in my checkbook.

I'd watch television but I can't find the remote.

I'd read a book but I can't find my glasses.

I'd go to a movie but I don't remember what I did with my car keys.

And I have no idea why nothing got done because I was busy all day.

Which I would tell my husband---if I knew where my cell phone was.

Haha. Yes I think you just have a case of the old AOADHD. But, like all things, you can use it to your advantage. Not sure how just yet for this - will have to think about it - but ... well, I'm sure there is a way. :)

I get on these addictive tangenets, too. Mine are more short-lived. Last week it was facebook. My husband is less patient.

I hope you never find that bloggy rehab! I'd miss you! :)

I wish I could be addicted to working 9 to 5. Yeah - RIGHT! It's my job that's making me escape to other addictions.

Oh dude, I have this exact disease. And yes, blogging is now the obsession. And it's funny, whenever I'm in the middle of my current obsession I think, "This one's going to last. I'll be doing this when I'm 80 years old." But it never does. Six months later I look back and I'm thinking, "WHY was I so into that?"

I hear ya...I too get addicted, then something shinny shows up over there and I am gone...then I hear about something over there and I am gone again. I use to be pretty (anal-sorry) about the spottless how and dust free..but gave that up when I realized I would rather the door just stay open and blow everything in...then sit inside and not feel the outside...while I am inside on THIS computer. I never use to be tied to the computer till, my good friend derfina started blogging. (I use to give her a hard time about not coming out to play...NOW I totally get it) I have to force myself off this computer to go outside. I have found so many new friends (insert yourself) here in blogland and find I need to know what's going on with them. It is so enjoyable to have friends all over the world. I have learned so much about others and myself. Wouldn't trade it for anything. Happy day :-)

I definitely have an 'additive' personality. I love to ADD adult beverages/pills to my beverages.

I could have written that. Both parts...your story AND the email story. And I have flirted with the idea that I might have AOADHD.

I'm thinking I'm a bit ADHD because I'll do exactly that and -- wait a minute, I have to run to the store. Be right back.

I feel ya. I have such an addictive personality, that if I ever tried drugs, I'm afraid I'd have to resort to prostitution to support my habit. So, the very idea of walking the streets of Anytown, USA keeps me grounded.
